About Play Streets
On July 18, 2012, PHA Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama announced an incredible opportunity to turn
our nation’s streets into play spaces and bring physical activity back into the lives of children across the country.
Play Streets is PHA’s way of helping make that opportunity a reality.
Play Streets close specific streets to traffic on a routine basis and open that space to the community to encourage physical activity. They offer a high-impact approach to encouraging and increasing physical activity, particularly in neighborhoods that lack sufficient open space for activity.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is generously supporting PHA’s Play Streets program by offering funding to 10 select localities to help get Play Streets off the ground in their communities.
